back in the saddle

back in the saddle

Huzzah!!
I actually managed to find the movable type p45blogs login page again!!!
OK I'd like to use the fact that I'd lost the bookmark to explain the three months of ......well nothing .But thats probably a bit too much to believe.
Possibly I could switch to the fact that thanks to the nasty spammers there were more dodgy porn ads here than the back pages of the Sunday Sport ,and it wa s bit embarressing going to these pages in work.
Except, well again thats an excuse, so lets just say I'm a lazy git and be done with it .

Ok how about a list to start things off , five, that sounds like a good number to start with :

1. Battlefield Vietnam
Still playing this , amazingly, but now online against lots of people , on the lovely Viet-navan server , I'm still shite though , àmong many others Bootinthehead, Batmandar and Draco's use of helicopters , sniper rifles and , well every other weapon respectively puts me to shame.I was also beaten by a 12 year a few days a go , slightly worrying reallyI've decided to diversify and pick the vechicles no-one else uses.
Yes,you cant beat messing about on the river .............. epspecially on a fast patrol boat with twin mounted m60's....oh yes baby!!

2.Pinball
My Mate bought a full size""star trek the next generation" pinball machine out of the "buy and sell" last week , off a bloke in louth who renovates these things apparantly.

Bastard!!
OK so he lives alone and has a huge disposable income..still Bastard anyway!!!:)
This officially makes my mate (Anto!!) king of the nerds..ok so I have pinmame, but its not the same...
So if anyones wondering what to get me for my birthday........

3.
Old Games
Finished Zelda :Links awakening on the gameboy , started on Zelda Oracle of seasons, I actually find myself looking forward to bus trips. Also Managed to finish "PowerDown" on the Atari 800 (albeit with an emulator on my Pocket PC) about 17 years after I bought it ..oh happy day!!!

4.
Bubba Ho tep
Bruce Campbell is a geriatric elvis (he faked his death y'see) fighting an ass sucking (literally)Mummy alongside a black whellchairbound JFK(loooong story) in a southern rest home. Not as funny as it sounds , and the effects are shite , but not too bad.

5.
Songs of ted
I like Ben Folds , I like the divine comedy , I especially like when they cover each others songs.Ben F has a cover of "songs of love" on his latest EP., which is rather good. The only downside is U.S. posters on one or two music sites saying things like "he like totally ripped off the Father ted music"

The first casualty of war is your free time

the first casualty of war is your free time

Havent updated in a while so I thought I'd blow off the cobwebs and boot this fella up the arse...(it was either that or take him out behind the metiphorical barn and shoot him in the head)
I've been doing very little in the way of retro stuff in the past two months or so ,I've
become addicted to an online game called battlefield vietnam * , which basically revolves running around as part of a team (US or V.C.) shooting at the other team and trying to capture bases. The fun thing is you get to drive tanks or fly helicopters as well as the usual shooty stuff..its great fun especially as you can transport troops or man the gun of a vehicle while someone else drives ,although I'm not great at it all things considered.
Interestingly enough theres an server full of irish players which is a laugh and makes a change from playing against obnoxious US 12 year olds.In my typical A.D.D. way I've become temporarily obsessed with all things relating to the vietnam war and I'm doing a fair bit of reading up on it(plus digging up any movie based in the era to watch, although my other half has been advised to shoot me if I suggest "good morning vietnam") .This happens a fair bit , last year I got into medal of honour and wolfenstien and became a WWII nut for a month or so ..This'll probably only last another week or so , and then my goldfish like attention will jump to something else..

Other than that theres not been much going on , Real Life (tm) is getting in the way a fair bit , I've a driving test at the end of the week that I've been preparing for (I think the years of video game racing have probably not prepared me for this , considering the amount of crashes I've had in Outrun over the years I kept expecting to manage to flip the car over for the first month I drove it).

I did manage to keep the retro flag flying by battling through an old atari game called "Powerdown" over the past week ...however I've gotten stuck at a certain part (involving a camera and a combination lock)and for the life of me cant find a solution anywhere ...its a weird feeling and it made me remember what it was like when you couldnt work out how to progress in a game and were truly stuck, before we had the likes of gamefaqs to rely on

* Its set in the late 60's to early 70's and has a cracking soundtrack from the era (War!! ...uhh yeah!!.. what is it gooood for...)and if thats not retro I dont really know what is..
