It takes two

I'm breaking one of my golden rules here and talking about my Girlfriend.(I swore not to mention her in the blog at all, but hopefully she wont mind this one case , er......hopefully...... no-one tell her anyway just in case..;)

As you may possible be aware , I am quite fond of games.

My Girlfriend on the otherhand, well, isnt.

When I try to explain to here about my various joystick related exploits, she nods and smiles and pats me on the head like a five year old I probably act like, before changing the subject. She does however have an achilles heel, (Well two actually, although "Achilles heels" sounds a bit like a Greek tranny shoe shop, anyway I'm digressing again am'nt I?) .
Doom , despite hating all other FPS games , She loves ID's classic shooter, and was delighted when I got it working on the PDA.
She also likes Point Blank, the arcade carnival style gun game, where she unerringly picks the gun that works properly and therefore manages to beat me (this has happened on six seperate occasions, it defies logic, but is , of course , the only explanation..;)).The point blank thing seems to be a common girly choice, I'm not sure why , possibly because of the fact you get to shoot little egg headed men?, or the big pink guns?? I'm not sure but I'm going to shut up before I get a smack..
Anyway this has changed recently as I've gotten her addicted to playing Gauntlet:Dark Legacy on the PS2. its basically your typical shoot em up , but with the added bonus that over a
period of time you level up , with your stats and hit points getting better the more grunts you kill.It makes a change to be able to play a game >with< someone as opposed to against them, which is possibly why we play it so much (well maybe once a week , but thats a lot compared to before).Yeah we have had the "you're stealing all the treasure" argument, but thats only because she's faster than me..I need all the help I can get .
We're gradually working our way through , and I reckon will be finished within the month.
Its been that much fun that I've picked up Baldurs Gate:Dark Alliance,(why is there always a "dark?" in the title of these games??)
B.G:d.a : is basically Gauntlet but with more beardy stats.I figure this should keep the fun going when we finish Gauntlet.
Hopefully I can wean her off the console games and allow me to setup a second pc for her in time for Quake IV ;)

spoilin' the movies and mowin' the lawn

Is this the most evil site of all time?
(ok probably not,but it is damn evil)
This link turned up on the boards last week
MovieSpoilers

Before I'd realised what I'd done I managed to ruin "momento" and "the ring" for myself ,Which in fairness I should have watched by now anyway...although on the otherhand I also saved myself the bother of watching the blair witch project. Ok so no one forced me to click on the links , but once they were in front of me I couldnt stop myself...evil, evil damn site

"Old shite but still good" game of the day: hover bover , on the c64.
Written by confirmed llama lover Jeff minter ,back when it was possible to code a game with just one or two people in a shed,as opposed to requiring a James Cameron budget and a team of NASA scientists the way multimedia projects do today.
Basically it involves you having to ..er mow your lawn,as its a bit long .No need to concern yourself with saving the world or rescuing the princess, just keeping your greens well tended is your goal here
Unfortunately you've "borrowed" your mates mower to do the job , and he's none too happy ,so while you race around the garden cutting away(oh and avoid the prize tulips please) ,he's chasing you past the petunias trying to get his lawn equipment back , with helpful comments like "give me back my mower you lunatic" and "seize boy, kill" as he tries to set his dog on you ...all to the tune of "an english country garden"...charmingly barmy, and suprisingly for a jeff minter game not a llama or camel in sight..(well ok, he sneaks a yak in on a loading screen)

If you use the c64 emu ( for pc or for ppc )I mentioned before , then you can download the file from this nice gentlemans site
here .Theres also apparantly a pc sequel called Grand theft flymo available on minters site: (which my firewall software here is blocking as a sex site for some reason?, maybe he's got some dodgy dromedary pics there, god knows??) anyway here's the link

thought for the day:#16

thought for the day:#16

thought for the day:
A commercial pilot'll spend long hours working with a professional computer flight simulator before he gets behind the controls of a real plane.

An Engineer'll spend months working on a computer simulated bridge working out the stress points and whatever , before anyone bolts anything together.

How hard do you reckon it'd be to get politicans to be forced to play a few hours of SimCity or Civilization before they were put up for the vote.

It'd make canvassing more interesting;
"Yes Mr Ahern, I am impressed with your manifesto, and your policies seem sound, however due to the fact that your sim-citizens have been revolting due to a lack of public transport, that you've put a residential area smack bang in the centre of a load of polluting industrial zones, and more importantly because aliens are attacking your city and you havent lifted a finger to stop them while I've been talking to you I'm afraid my vote goes elsewhere.."
